Radical prostatectomy vs Watchful waiting
16 May 2011
Bill-Axelson et al report 15-year follow-up data on their trial comparing radical prostatectomy with watchful waiting in men with early prostate cancer.
Their finding is clear: the risk of dying from prostate cancer was 14.6% for men in the
radical-prostatectomy group, compared with 20% in the watchful waiting group.
The researchers report that the benefit was seen amongst men who were younger than 65 at the time of diagnosis.
