Genetic profiling
11 July 2011
A team led by the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) has reported important new findings about genetic patterns that affect a man's risk of getting prostate cancer.
The researchers looked at genetic material from 60,000 men and looked for associations between patterns in their genes and their likelihood of developing prostate cancer.
They found more than forty genetic regions that affect the risk of prostate cancer. Men who had a large number of key variations in these regions had a much higher risk of getting the disease.
This type of research can identify possible target areas for diagnostic and screening tests in the future.Find out more
