Quality of Information
Any decision can only be as good as the information which informs it. We want to make sure that people affected with prostate cancer have access to the best possible quality of information that fits what they need to know.
Many studies have pinpointed quality as a big problem with information on the internet. Some studies have even found evidence of harm arising from use of the internet to gather information.
One of the problems is that people access this information without the benefit of an expert intermediary who can help them to interpret it. People may be vulnerable to unrealistic or biased claims which may tell them what they want to hear but be based on unsubstantiated data.
UK Prostate Link provides a clear quality rating alongside every piece of information included in the site. We will make our method for deriving this rating transparent and explicit. Not only will we help users to make informed choices about where they go for information, but we will also provide important feedback to other providers on how to improve their information.
Many projects have set out to rate the quality of information, but few have succeeded. Why should this project be any different? Find out in the How We Are Doing It section.
We will start from a position that good quality information is:
- accessible
- clear and concise
- relevant to the audience
- unbiased
- up-to-date
