A new design for TPCC
23 November 2010
Our congratulations to the team at The Prostate Cancer Charity, who launched a redesigned website on 15th November.
The new site is more visually attractive than the old one, and makes better use of the space available on the larger screens that most users now have.
Clearly a lot of hard work has gone into this design. We feel that the team have managed this transition well, without compromising the quality of the original content.
Check your links
Our one concern about the transition process was that it broke all of our links to the existing information: if you have a website that links to information on the Prostate Cancer Charity website, you would be advised to check and update your links.
Accessibility
Our electronic checker found that the site conforms well to accessibility guidelines.
Usability
The new design is attractive and engaging. The information section is easy to find on the top menu, and the subsections are clearl laid out in a drop-down menu.
Our assessors made the following comments:
- Drop-down menus can increase user errors.
- Some pages present the user with lots of different options, many of which are not relevant to the information on the page.
- There is some evidence of multiple design schemes which might affect the clarity of information.
Reliability
The content remains of the same high standard. Information is assessed by experts and updated with current research.
The Information Standard
The content of the website comes with a guarantee by the Information Standard. We note that it is not possible to tell exactly what this comprises in practical terms. This is a failing of the Information Standard website, not of TPCC website.
New content
The site contains some useful new material on the following topics:
